Data Literacy – don’t just say yes, but ask why?

We cannot avoid seeing the importance of data today regardless if it is private or business data. How do we read, create or communicate the data as information is another question.

This is very interesting topic to look closer. Here you can find books recommendations and interesting links.

“Data literacy is a journey, one that individuals and organizations are starting to attack head on” – Qlik

To whom

  • Not all need to be Data Scientist
  • Not all need to be statistics experts

  • Capability to eaqually discuss, analyze, argue considering person’s roles, responsibilitys etc.

What are the benefits of being Data Literate?

  • Better decision making, better business
  • Better and exact communication
  • Understandable priorities and how one is performing when targeting their priorities
  • Learning culture -> Question Why

Data Literacy books:

Recommendations by @JordanMorrow

Saatko asiat helposti selville?

  • Mitä me teemme
  • Miten me sen teemme
  • Missä asioita tehdään
  • Kuka asioita meillä tekee
  • Miten me suoriudumme tekemisessämme
  • Kenelle asioita teemme

“Qlik’s Associative engine brings together all your data so you can explore without limits”

Tutustu tästä Qlikin associative enginen ideaan. Video

Kolmannen sukupolven analytiikka työväline mahdollistaa enemmän. Siinä missä assosiatiivisuus Qlikissä näyttää miten asiat on suhteessa toisiinsa, niin Qlikin Cognitiivinen ominaisuus huomioi sinut käyttäjänä.

  • Oppii datasta
  • Ehdottaa hyviä data visualisointi vaihtoehtoja
  • Opettaa hyödyntämään dataa

“The Qlik Cognitive Engine provides context-aware suggestions that help users spot hidden insights”

Tutustu tästä Qlikin cognitive enginen ideaan. Video

“Kori täynnä vaihtoehtoja, poimi oikea kokeilemalla”

Business Intelligence (BI) ja analytiikan työväline valinnoissa nousee esiin monia toistuvia kysymyksiä, joista tässä muutamia avainsanoja:

  • erot tuotteiden ja teknologioiden välillä
  • hinnoittelumallit
  • käytettävyys
  • onnistuuko tilannekuvan luominen
  • soveltuuko koko organisaatiolle.
  • onnistuuko edistyksellisen analytiikan integraatiot

Miten..?

Jotta pääset työväline valintaprosessissa alkuun suosittelen testikäyttö menettelyä. Kun testaat raportointi sovellusta omalla datalla havainnollistat parhaiten tuotteen kyvykkyyden.

Alla hieman pohdiskelua omin sanoin testikäyttö ajatusmaailmasta.

Seeing Is Believing (SiB) tai Proof of Concept (PoC)

On syntynyt ensimmäiset konkreettiset tuotokset. Mahtavaa…

* informaatiot ja toiminnallisuudet vaatimuslista (Scope)

* Tekninen asennettu toiminta ympäristö. (Qliksense palvelimet, toiminta valmiina)

Vaihe tuottaa raportointisovelluksen testattavaksi.

  • vastaa esitettyihin vaatimuksiin
  • tuottaa hyvän käyttökokemuksen ja siistin visuaalisen ulkoasun

Edut ja hyödyt:

  • Tuote evaluoinnin pienet kustannukset
  • nopeasti tuotoksia
  • tutustu Qlik teknologiaan omalla datalla
  • koe mahdollisuudet
  • näe esitystapa ja toiminnallisuus mahdollisuudet

“Miten jatkaa tästä eteenpäin…ketterästi edelleen!”

Story will be updated soon..

Where dimension enriches analytics

Location intelligence as a data and visualization in your analytics is very powerful tool in many cases. Where information in text and numeric format are used traditionally in e.g. bar charts or pie charts. How about visualizing the same easily in maps. And what about if map can give you option to have multi layer view with tons of different data at the same time.

Location Intelligence

Where dimension is a solid part of analytics. It enriches an analytics and enables even better situational awareness of your business. Like any of your visualization in your analytics apps, use it with making sense and be part of a story.

“Location intelligence use case examples”

  • Sales and profit per country, cities or tailored areas.
  • More efficient marketing campaigns for specific areas
  • Strengths, weaknesses, possibilities or threats per area

Store performance

Construction industry

  • To plan where to build and what
  • What are different effects and influences in each different locations.

New locations

Operations and logistics

  • To optimize delivery routes
  • To forecast needs and demand indications per different area

Wholesale and services

  • Store and services locations per consumer behaviour and per trends
  • Demand forecasting per area
  • To visualize success of different stores regionally.
  • To optimize product placement regionally with marketing campaigns

Insurance sector

  • Risk management per transaction type
  • Risk identification per area
  • Forecast and scenarios per area

Security sector

  • Forecast analysis for crime (regionally)
  • To identify and publish risks in different areas
  • To develop security regionally

(Pics are from qlik demos at https://demos.qlik.com/qliksense)

” Qlik GeoAnalytics”

Qlik Sense  offers options for location intelligence.

1) Use Qlik Sense native mapping functionality (points and areas)

2) Or use GeoAnalytics which enriches your geo visualization with e.g. multilayers, many different visualization options

3) Use other great tools like QlikMaps from Analytics8 and so on

What is GeoAnalytics.. have a look this video from Qlik.

” How to get started with Qlik GeoAnalytics”

If you want to know how to start with GeoAnalytics, please check this video from Qlik’s Michael Tarallo

Qlik has lots of more information of GeoAnalytics e.g in Qlik Help. Interested, check it here: GeoAnalytics

Yesterday, today, tomorrow – Analytics of openness.

A very common dilemma (still) today is that we see our business from yesterday to today.  More often a tomorrow aspect is not available. Even though all technical capabilities to forecast “tomorrow” (future) are possible. Not with 100 % certainty but close enough.

Why advanced Analytics Integration (AAI) is still a myth

I have seen and heard great examples of use of AAI. Some companies may have hundreds of data scientists analyzing, explaining or preparing data. But many don’t use it. Why?

Reasons are something like;

  • Not enough understanding what it really means
  • No support, sponsorship from top management
  • Thoughts that data quality is not well enough
  • There are are too many data sources to integrate
  • Not understanding what it technically really means
  • Even basic reporting and analytics are not finalized

People normally are curious to know what will happen in future and then they wonder how can we make it happen.

I love to find explanations and examples why somethings is like it is.  Jason Silva mentions in his video that we are learned to be more present, learner to be in the moment. Aren’t we learned to know a “tommorrow”?

Finding Balance Between The Now And The Future – Jason Silva

On the other hand it is said that e.g. Fintech is changing consumers behavior. Consumers have more options to access to an information and various services to choose. Services guides and gives information what to do, chat pots, live chat etc.. This is close to augmented intelligence approach.  What about if consumer can choose a right services at right time using advanced analytics. Open data and “analytics of openness”.

We love or not a technology and a services will change things in our everyday life. Some of them explains what has been done and is now, other can lead you to do rights decisions in future.

“Learn from history, act now, be ready for tommorrow”

Qlik Sense June 2017

Qlik uusin julkaisu mukailee nyt uutta nimeämiskäytäntöä. Kesäkuun julkaisu on nimeltään June 2017. Samalla poistui service ja feature julkaisu jaottelu, mikä on mielestäni hyvä ja selkeä uudistus.

Kesäkuussa julkaistiin Qlik Nprinting ja QlikSense uudet versiot
